Our Wallace Memorial Presbyterian Church Raymond M. Reisacher Vacation Bible School will be July 23-27 this year. This is a large community outreach program that welcomes close to 100 children, their parents and grandparents into our building each summer. Over 50 volunteers, many of them from the community, come together to make it happen. It takes months of planning and is a joy-filled, high energy week. Please consider joining the team. Just contact Ellen Heriger (eheriger@wallacememorial.org or 412.562.2431) and we will find a place to use your talents. In addition, YOU are encouraged to invite a child, please find the information page and registration form in this Tower Light, please see that a child you know is personally invited, a neighbor, a grandchild, the son/daughter of someone you work with—all welcome.
Our Education Hour Classes for the 2011-2012 year are coming to a close. The final day for regular class is Sunday, May 20. As this is the Sunday before Pentecost, classes are asked to focus on the Pentecost story, learn a memory verse, help make bulletin inserts for the following Sunday, and using the POWER of the FIRE, to plan a class service project for this summer.
Dr. John Mehl will be presenting “Revisiting the Creation Stories in Genesis 1-3 as a Resource for Faithful Living" May 6, 13 & 20 in Fellowship Hall.
For years these stories have been a battleground for the conflict between science and religion. Many Christians have taken one of two views: that the stories are an embarrassment to be ignored or foundational documents to be defended at all costs. In our discussions we'll take an alternative view, looking at the stories in their historical and literary contexts and discussing whether science and religion can have a compatible rather than a competitive relationship.
The Christian Education/Spiritual Formation Committee will be honoring our Education Ministry Team with a donation of bees to Heifer, International. Every person who teaches, plans, organizes a class for our Education Hour gives generously of their time and their faith, supporting others on their faith walk. Please take a moment and personally thank one of the team: Ardie Vernacchio, Joyce Purcell, Keith Tarbi, Lynn Wren, Terry Oberst, Elva Schwartzmiller, Joanne Bald, Harriette Apel, Becka Abbott, Ellen Heriger, Lynne Wallis, Lynn Rieger, Jennifer Tancraitor, Jan Schroeder, Dawn Hicken, Betsy Martinelli, Dennis Molnar, Betty Eichler, Roy Humphrey, Joan Humphrey, Eunice Nasri, John Connolly, Judy Patterson, Milly Hum, John Gottschall, Arlene Crissman, Bonnie Donald, Carole Kerr, Kay Heidkamp, Kay Palmer, Robin Tarbi and Jennifer Madge.

Several participants of “Ashes on your Forehead,” our Lenten weekly devotion, have asked for it to be a monthly event. So…1MR, 1st Monday Reflections, will begin Monday, May 7 at 1:00 in the
Conference Room. It will be a time for text, prayer and sharing. You are most welcome.
